What ₦50,000 buys for a baby in Nigeria
Shopping to a budget is how most Nigerian parents actually shop, so it is worth saying plainly what this band does and does not cover.
Under ₦25,000 is the best value in the shop. A baby carrier is ₦20,000 to ₦25,000 and gets used every day for a year or more. A portable bed that folds into a diaper bag is ₦20,000 and covers the nights your baby sleeps somewhere else. If you have ₦45,000 in total, a carrier and a portable bed together are a better buy than any single item at that price.
₦40,000 to ₦50,000 is walker money. A baby walker starts at ₦40,000 for green and goes to ₦50,000 for blue. Before you buy one, read are baby walkers safe. The short version is that a walker does not help a baby learn to walk, Canada banned wheeled walkers outright in 2004, and the injuries that do happen are almost all falls down stairs. We sell walkers and we still think you should read that page first.
What this band does not cover. A cot, a car seat and a full-size stroller all start at ₦63,000 or above, and there is no honest way to get them for less. If those are what you need, it is better to wait and buy one good one than to spend ₦45,000 on a poor substitute that gets replaced in three months.
On prices generally. Every price here is the full price of the item. There is no separate base, adapter or fitting kit to buy afterwards, and nothing on this site says contact for price.
If you are working out a whole budget rather than one purchase, the newborn baby items list sets out the full haul with prices.
